Witness giardia for cats and dogs - box with 5 diagnostic tests

For the detection of Giardia intestinalis antigen in cats and dogs

Witness Giardia is a fast and clean kit based on Rapid Immuno Migration (RIM) technology for cats and dogs.

Each box of Witness Giardia contains:

  • 5 envelopes, with 1 test plate and a desiccant inside each one.
  • 5 disposable pipettes for sample collection.
  • 1 bottle of buffer solution.
  • Instructions for use.
  • Witness Giardia allows detection of Giardia intestinalis antigen present in canine and feline fecal samples.
  • Witness Giardia test is based on the use of red polystyrene microspheres (latex particles) coated with monoclonal antibodies against Giardia intestinalis, and blue microspheres as a control. The parasitic antigen present in the stool sample reacts with the latex particles coated with monoclonal antibodies specific for that antigen. This latex particle/antibody/parasitic antigen complex migrates through the reaction area using a chromatographic process. In this area, anti-Giardia antibodies react with the latex particle/antibody/parasitic antigen complex, and the reaction causes a red or pink band to appear.
  • Sample collection:

    • Open and remove the upper part of the pipette for sample collection; you will notice that a swab is attached to this part.
    • Dispense buffer solution into the sample collection pipette and fill it up to the level indicated by a mark.
    • Take the upper part of the pipette and cover the swab with stool material from the stool sample to be analysed; the sample may also be collected directly from the anus. 60 to 100 mg of faecal material is required for the swab to be completely covered with faeces.
    • Insert the swab with the sample in the buffer solution previously poured into the base of the pipette. Close the device tightly and mix by tapping the pipette for about 5 seconds to ensure good sample extraction.
  • Sample distribution:

    • Open the envelope, remove the test plate and place it on a flat, horizontal surface, where it should be left for the duration of the test, i.e. while migration takes place.
    • Break the top of the pipette along the blue line. The pipette contains the collected stool sample.
    • Invert the pipette by holding it vertically and press Gently lower its base to deposit five drops in the sample well in the window (1).
    • If after one minute the liquid has not migrated to the window (2), add one more drop of the sample to the window (1).
  • Reading of the test:

    • Wait 5 minutes and then observe whether or not a red or pink band has appeared in the window (2) and a blue band in the window (3).
    • The result band appears in the window (2). The control band appears in the window (3).
  • Results:
    • Negative: A sample is negative for Giardia intestinalis antigens when no red or pink band appears in the window (2) and a blue band appears in the window (3).
    • Positive: A sample is positive for Giardia intestinalis antigens when a red or pink band appears in the window (2) and a blue band appears in the window (3).
    • Note:
    • The test is valid only if a blue control band appears in the window (3). If no blue band appears in the window (3) the test is invalid and must be repeated.
    • Remember:
    • The result of any test must be interpreted in the context of all available clinical information and the history of the dog or cat being tested.
    • Notes:
    • The test has been completed and the test reading can be taken in less than 5 minutes if the bands are visible in windows (2) and (3).
    • However, the appearance of a single band in window (3) before 5 minutes, it does not allow to terminate the test. It's the red or pink band may appear in the window (2) slower than the blue band on the control in the window (3).
