For the treatment of otitis in cats and dogs

Abelia is an antipruritic, antimicrobial, drying and healing solution of high security for dogs, cats, exotics and horses.

Abelia Zn-Otic composition:

  • 1% Zinc Gluconate
  • Boric acid 1%
  • L-lysine 1%
  • Taurine 0,5%

Abelia TrisEdta composition:

  • Trometamine base 0,60%
  • Trometamine HCI 0,35%
  • EDTA 0,12%
  • Benzyl alcohol 0,30%

Abelia Zn-Otic is indicated for:

  • Dogs, cats and exotic animals.
  • Calm the itching and discomfort associated with otitis.
  • Chronic otitis, as long-term maintenance to prevent future recurrences.
  • Simple acute otitis, particularly those in which the main agent is Malassezia.
  • Contribute to the therapy with antibiotics, antifungals or topical steroids in complicated otitis. (e.g. Pseudomonas).
  • To restore the microenvironment of the auditory canal, creating an environment that favors its natural healing.
  • Sensitive, irritated or ulcerated ears.
  • Ears whose tympanic membrane is not intact (or is suspected).
  • Preventive drying of the ear canal (e.g. swimming dogs).
  • Smelly ears.

Abelia TrisEdta is indicated for:

  • Dogs and cats.
  • Treatment of otitis in which the main agent is a gram-negative bacterium (Pseudomonas, Proteus...).
  • Treatment of otitis in which the main agent is a gram-positive bacterium (Streptococcus beta-hemolytics and Staphylococcus).
  • Potentiate antibiotics, mainly aminoglycosides (gentamicin, neomycin, amikacin, tobramycin...) and Quinolones (marbofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin...).
  • Potentiate other antibiotics that require alkaline pH to act.
  • Antimicrobial activity even without the association of antibiotics.
  • Long-term prevention of recurrent chronic otitis with a bacterial component.
  • Ears with perforated tympanic membrane (or suspected).
  • Abscesses or wounds with gram-negative and gram-positive infections, particularly if treated with quinolones or aminoglycosides.

Abelia GlycoZoo is indicated for:

  • Dogs, cats, exotics and horses.
  • The treatment of otitis, particularly those in which the main agent is Malassezia.
  • Prevention of long-term recurrent chronic otitis.
  • Assist in the treatment of complicated otitis. By its cerumenolytic action Abelia GlycoZoo prepares the ear canal to maximize the effectiveness of topical treatment. Due to its antibacterial and antifungal action, it also reinforces its antimicrobial action.
  • Treatment of óticas pathologies that cursan with seborrea and/or disorders of the keratinization.
  • Repair and protection of the epithelium of the auditory canal when it presents desquamation or others. signs of dehydration, inflammation...
  • Ears with perforated tympanic membrane (or suspected).
  • Preventive drying of the ear canal (e.g. swimming dogs).
  • Smelly ears.

How to use Abelia Zn-Otic:

  • First application:

    • Clean the ear canal with a suitable cerumenolytic ear cleaner.
    • Fill the ear canal with ABELIA® Zn-Otic.
    • Gently massage the base of the ear for a few seconds.
    • Allow to dry.
  • Subsequent applications:

    • Administer, depending on pet size, from 0.25 ml (5 drops) to 3 ml, twice daily.
  • Maintenance

    • Apply 1-2 times per week.

How to use Abelia TrisEdta:

  • Treatment:

    • Ideally, it is recommended to administer Abelia TrisEdta 15-30 minutes before the application of the antibiotic to enhance its action. Alternatively it can be applied simultaneously (see Magistral Formula below).
    • Fill the ear canal: apply between 1-5 ml depending on the breed (at least 0.5 to 2 ml are needed to reach the middle ear).
    • Gently but firmly massage the base of the ear for several seconds.
    • Excess solution or residue on the outside of the ear can be removed with gauze or paper towel.
    • Do not remove or wash the solution of Abelia TrisEdta.
    • Apply every 12 to 24 hours for at least 4 weeks. The duration of the treatment should be evaluated by the clinician in each case.
    • The ears should be re-evaluated by your veterinarian every 7-10 days. It is advisable to perform control cytologies to assess the success of the treatment and its duration.
  • Maintenance/Prevention:

    • Apply 1-2 times per week.
  • Magistral Formula:

    • Add Abelia TrisEdta to the package:
    • 600 mg of injectable enrofloxacin (e.g. enro 10%: 6 ml). Alternatively add: 400 mg marbofloxacin, 300 mg injectable amikacin. These concentrations can be doubled in cases of antibiotic resistance.
    • If there is inflammation add 8-16 mg of injectable dexamethasone (aqueous solutions such as sodium phosphate are safer and dilute better).
    • If otocariasis is diagnosed, add 6 ml of Ivermectin 1%.
    • Administer enough product to fill the ear canal, do not remove the solution.
    • Establish the frequency and duration of treatment depending on the antibiotic used. It is usually recommended to apply the product 2 times a day for at least 30 days, until cured.
    • This formula is effective at room temperature for 3 months**.

How to use Abelia GlycoZoo:

  • Treatment:

    • Apply Abelia GlycoZoo carefully until the ear canal is full (1 to 5 ml are needed depending on the breed).
    • Gently massage the base of the ear for a few seconds.
    • Remove excess solution with gauze or paper towel.
    • Repeat every 12-24 hours.
    • Ears should be reevaluated by your veterinarian every 7-10 days.
