Marbovet is either a beige, quadrangular, flat, slotted and splittable tablet for dogs or a yellow solution for injection for cattle and pigs.

Indications for use of Marbovet, specifying the target species:

  • Dogs:
    • Treatment of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to marbofloxacin:
    • Superficial or deep pyoderma caused by staphylococci, streptococci, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and/or Enterobacter sp.
    • Urinary tract infections caused by Proteus mirabilis and E. coli, whether or not associated with prostatitis or epididymitis.
    • Respiratory tract infections caused by streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli, Proteus sp., Pasteurella multocida, Klebsiella pneumoniae and/or Pseudomonas sp.
  • Pre-ruminant and ruminant calves:
    • Treatment of respiratory infections caused by strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia (Pasteurella)haemolytica and Mycoplasma bovis susceptible to marbofloxacin.
  • Fattening pigs:
    • Treatment of respiratory infections caused by strains of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida sensitive to marbofloxacin.
  • Sows:
    • Treatment of Mastitis-Metritis-Agalaxy syndrome caused by bacterial strains sensitive to marbofloxacin.
  • Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipient. - Do not use in large breed dogs under 12 months of age.
  • Do not use in epileptic animals in the absence of data in these cases.
  • Do not use in infections by bacteria resistant to other fluoroquinolones and/or quinolones (cross resistances).
  • Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to marbofloxacin, other quinolones or any excipient.

Amounts of Marbovet to be administered and administration route:

Marbovet tablets:

  • The recommended dose is 2 mg/kg/day in a single daily oral administration.
  • The following dosage guideline may be followed:
Dog weight 4-6 kg 9-12 kg 12-17 kg 17-25 kg 25-36 kg 36-50 kg + 50 kg

  • In pyoderma, the duration of the treatment is at least 5 days. Depending on the clinical course, it may last up to 40 days.
  • For lower urinary tract infections not associated with prostatitis or epididymitis, the duration of treatment is at least 10 days. In case of associated prostatitis or epididymitis, or in case of upper urinary tract infections, treatment may be prolonged up to 28 days.
  • In the case of respiratory infections, the duration of treatment is at least 7 days for acute cases, and may be prolonged up to 21 days depending on the clinical evolution of the process.
  • The weight of the animals should be determined as accurately as possible in order to avoid insufficient dosage.

Marbovet solution for injection:

Marbovet 20 mg/ml:

Cattle:
  • Subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous route of administration.
  • The recommended dose is 2 mg marbofloxacin/kg/day (equivalent to 1 ml of medication/10 kg bw)in a daily injection by subcutaneous or intramuscular route, during 3 to 5 days. The first injection may also be carried out intravenously.
  • Withdrawal time:
    • Meat: 6 days
    • Milk: Its use is not authorised in animals whose milk is used for human consumption.
Pigs:
  • Intramuscular use
  • The recommended dose is 2 mg of marbofloxacin/kg/day, (equivalent to 1 ml of medication/10 kg of body weight) in a daily injection by intramuscular route, during 3 to 5 days. Subdivide the volume to be injected into two or more application points, if it is greater than 20 ml.
  • Withdrawal time:
    • Meat: 4 days

Marbovet 100 mg/ml:

Cattle:
  • Subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous.
  • Treatment of respiratory infections caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica:
    • The recommended dose is 8 mg/kg bw (2 ml veterinary drug /25 kg bw) in a single intramuscular injection.
  • Treatment of respiratory infections caused by susceptible strains of Mycoplasma bovis:
    • The recommended dose is 2 mg/kg body weight (1 ml veterinary drug / 50 kg pv) once a day by subuctaneous or intramuscular route for 3 to 5 consecutive days. The first injection may be administered intravenously.
  • Treatment of acute mastitis:
    • The recommended dose is 2 mg of marbofloxacin/kg live weight (equivalent to 1 ml of medication/50 kg live weight.) in a single daily injection subcutaneously or intramuscularly for 3 consecutive days. The first injection can also be made intravenously.
  • Withdrawal time:

  • Intramuscular injection into cattle and pigs should preferably be carried out on the neck tables.
    • Treatment of acute mastitis:
    • The recommended dose is 2 mg of marbofloxacin/kg live weight (equivalent to 1 ml of medication/50 kg live weight.) in a single daily injection subcutaneously or intramuscularly for 3 consecutive days. The first injection can also be made intravenously.
    • Withdrawal time:
    • Meat: 4 days
